Dr. Angel Whatts
O.D.F.O.A.A.

Dr. Angel Whatts is the first certified WAVE contact lens designer in Puerto Rico and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ortho-K. During his 30 year career, he has developed the technique to fit contact lenses for patients with complex prescriptions. He has helped thousands of patients with irregular corneas such as Keratoconus, post corneal transplant, and vision complications after refractive surgery, to regain clear vision.

PIONEERS IN THE DESIGN OF
DIGITAL CONTACT LENSES

KERATOCONUS

KERATOCONUS

Keratoconus is a degenerative condition, that progressively thins the cornea, causing a bulging or cone shape. The cornea is normally smooth around, like a dome, however in Keratoconus, the cornea becomes very thin, irregular and starts to protrude like a cone. This protruding cone shape affects the central cornea and causes the vision to become distorted. Usually people with early Keratoconus, notice slightly blurred vision and consult a doctor for glasses.

The condition may go undetected for sometime. If the condition is not too advanced, soft contact lenses and rigid gas permeable lenses will provide superior vision correction than glasses. If the disease progresses, vision deteriorates, sometimes rapidly, and glasses can no longer help you. In advanced to severe Keratoconus, digitally designed rigid gas permeable lenses are certainly the preferred treatment of choice.

Dr. Angel Whatts uses CAD/CAM Digital Technology to design and manufacture custom-made lenses with personalized specifications for each patient. This technique is used to treat patients:
  • With Advanced to severe Keratoconus
  • Who have undergone corneal transplants
  • With bad results after refractive surgery
  • Other complex conditions that require specialty custom designed lenses

REHABILITATION AFTER POOR REFRACTIVE SURGERY RESULTS

Some people who have had a refractive surgery procedure, may now be dealing with many different types of visual distortions and vision loss.

Some common symptoms can be:

  • Blurred vision
  • Dry eyes
  • Light sensitivity
  • Eye pain and headaches
  • Ghosting, halos, starburst
  • Glare, multiple images

Although currently there are no solutions to some of these adverse effects, custom made digital contact lenses or scleral contact lenses can, in many cases, restore vision and improve the quality of life. Dr. Whatts, and his team, are committed in providing excellent service and contributing to the effective treatment of your visual condition.

Dr. Angel Whatts is the first Puerto Rican to use WAVE DIGITAL lens technology for the visual rehabilitation of irregular corneas. This is the most advanced technology that exists for the design of custom made rigid gas permeable contact lenses.
